Agnieszka Skorupa

Doctor of psychology, researcher, educator, trainer

I specialize in the analysis of human behaviour in extreme situations, especially in adaptation to polar conditions, which was the topic of my doctoral dissertation. From the beginning of my career, I have been working at the University of Silesia, where I run didactic classes for students and conduct scientific research. I have experience working with many foreign research centers, including Universität Bremen, Tallinna Tehnikaülikool, Universidad de Málaga, Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) in Madrid or Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in Brazil. I am an author of nearly 50 scientific publications, being also the co-editor of four books. Currently, I am developing research in the field of adaptation to polar conditions in cooperation with the Hornsund Polish Polar Station and the Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station. Together with The Lunares Research Base, I am also developing a psychological research program for analogue space missions. I am also the PI of the AstroMentalHealth research project to be carried out on the International Space Station during the first Polish technology and science mission to the ISS - IGNIS.


I combine the academic world with practical activity. I develop and conduct workshops and training for business entities and public institutions focused on the practical application of psychological theories. I co-create recruitment processes for companies, train expeditions before going to polar stations, introduce psychological issues to medics and rescuers working in extreme situations (catastrophes, armed conflicts, alpine excursions, exploration of harsh environments). For ten years, I was involved in survival and co-led survival camps. Currently, I am a traveller and martial arts enthusiast. I have the ninth, instructor, degree of Wing Chun Kung Fu.

I popularize science, I am an author of psychoeducational classes for young people and a speaker at Science Festivals. As part of my social activities, I cooperate with various foundations, including Jesteśmy dla Was, Kino Szkoła, Zimbardo Youth Center, The Center for Citizenship Education (CCE).
